2020 has been “new territory” for everyone. One moment, what was normal, steady, and comfortable turns into ever changing, loss of consistency, and episodes of fear.
2020 certainly hasn’t been the first time “normal” has changed for people, but the change has lasted a lot longer and for many, has carried with it a lot of loss.
Getting a special needs diagnosis of your child is one time in our lives where our “normal” turned into ever changing, loss of consistency, and episodes of fear.
- Did God intend for the floor to drop out from under us?
- Should we be in fear when we are unsure of this new path?
- How can we serve this child well when the consistency with our first is nothing like we are experiencing now?
We also have experienced a significant loss of a loved one this year and I am so grateful for the last 15 years we had with her because there were extreme health conditions than could have shorted her life even earlier. Her life was full of love for her family and full of generosity!
This life was never meant to be easy, but when we can rely on God, we can have joy even through tough times. As this Christmas season wraps up and the New Year is about to arrive, let’s be full of expectation:
- If your child has a special needs diagnosis, look for those little miracles in the every day.
- If you experienced a loss of income, bless others and see how God blesses you back.
- If relationships have declined, expect God to soften hearts and mend to be stronger than ever.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
Thank you for being on this journey with us, shedding a different light on disabilities!
